The Toy Clinic at the Ridgefield Community Center was a treasure trove. I photographed arrangements of toys left as they had arrived, in a jumble, then created large paintings from them. When I had the opportunity, I began to collect what the clinic discarded, and arrange them at home, selecting groupings that gave me a jolt. The resulting paintings are sometimes funny, but mostly dark, and kept my interest for several years.
